David De Gea Sends Message To Bruno Fernandes As Emotional Man United Reunion Confirmed

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has sent some fighting words to Bruno Fernandes ahead of his first return to Old Trafford since leaving.

De Gea spent 12 years at Old Trafford, making 545 appearances for United and winning the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. His contract with the Reds expired in 2023, following a lengthy saga at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Then manager Erik ten Hag elected to replace De Gea as number one, prompting the Spaniard to decide not to renew his contract with the club. Andre Onana was signed as De Gea’s replacement, as Ten Hag sought to shift the focus to a more measured distribution scheme from the back.

United’s previous No.1 skipped the entire 2023/24 season while deciding what he wanted to do next. He returned to Manchester to train with National League team Altrincham before joining Fiorentina last summer. Read Also:Mayor Floats Forcing Land Sale For Man Utd Stadium

Ten Hag left United during the 2024/25 season, and De Gea established himself as the top choice for the Serie A team. The 34-year-old will now return to the Reds on Saturday, when Fiorentina takes against Ruben Amorim’s side in the final pre-season game.

De Gea is expected to have an emotional afternoon when he reunites with some old acquaintances, including Fernandes.

In a video provided by United’s social media team, De Gea stated: “As you know, I am returning to your house. It will undoubtedly be special for me.

“Bruno, you know you can’t score against me, and if you do, it’s because I allowed you to score so people would keep singing your name.” No, but obviously, I can’t wait to meet you, my friend.
