Dani Olmo Nears Return As Barcelona Assess Fitness Ahead Of Elche Clash

Barcelona midfielder Dani Olmo is closing in on a return to action after stepping up his recovery from a calf injury, reports Barca Universal.

According to SPORT, the 27-year-old resumed light training earlier this week and will join group training today, where his fitness levels will be closely evaluated.

Olmo sustained the injury while on international duty with Spain earlier this month, aggravating it during training and missing Barcelona’s last two games.

His determination and consistent work in rehabilitation have impressed club staff.

Barcelona Cautious With Olmo’s Recovery

With no midweek fixtures, Barcelona have allowed Olmo more recovery time ahead of Saturday’s clash against Elche.

Hansi Flick is hopeful the playmaker can feature, offering a creative spark after a difficult run of results.

However, the club remains cautious due to Olmo’s worrying injury history.

Since 2021, he has suffered 11 separate setbacks, missing 85 of a possible 252 games across club and international competitions.

Flick Hopes For Turning Point

Sporting director Deco recently met with Olmo’s agent to set a clearer plan for his long-term fitness management.

Barcelona are desperate to avoid further breakdowns as the player remains integral to Flick’s tactical setup.

If Olmo returns successfully against Elche, it could mark a crucial turning point for both the midfielder and Barcelona’s season.
