Barcelona are actively searching for a new centre-back ahead of the January transfer window, but their options remain limited due to ongoing financial constraints.
The Catalan giants have identified several defensive targets in recent weeks, while also ruling out others as unrealistic mid-season additions.
With Barcelona unable to spend heavily, the club’s preference is to secure a short-term loan rather than commit to a major transfer fee.
One player who had emerged as a potential option was Paris Saint-Germain defender Lucas Beraldo, who had been on the fringes under Luis Enrique.
The 22-year-old Brazilian was thought to be available after struggling for regular minutes in the French capital earlier this season.
However, reports from Sport now claim that a January move for Beraldo has been completely ruled out, reports Football Espana.
Barcelona are said to have made no formal approach to PSG, and the Ligue 1 champions no longer wish to let the defender leave.
PSG are currently dealing with their own defensive injury concerns and see Beraldo as an important squad option for the second half of the campaign.
Barcelona Face January Dilemma In Defence
Although Beraldo could still be considered as a permanent signing in the summer, he will not be available to cover Andreas Christensen’s long-term absence.
Christensen is expected to miss several months after suffering a partial ACL tear, leaving Barcelona short at centre-back.
Signing a defender in January is notoriously difficult, especially with limited funds and few clubs willing to weaken their squads mid-season.

As a result, Barcelona’s “new signing” may come from within, with Ronald Araujo closing in on a return from injury.
While the Uruguayan’s comeback will provide a significant boost, Barcelona remain aware that defensive reinforcements will be a priority heading into the summer transfer window.
