Speaking to CMTV, he said: “Ruben Amorim? He’s a great coach, but under contract with Manchester United until 2027.”

The rumors intensified after Noronha Lopes was spotted in Manchester during United’s heavy 3-0 derby defeat against rivals City.

He clarified: “We went to watch the Manchester derby, hold meetings, and prepare Benfica’s future. I didn’t meet Amorim.”

Noronha Lopes Stands Firm Amid Speculation

Vice-president candidate Nuno Gomes accompanied him and added: “One thing I know, Amorim will coach Benfica one day.”

Despite the speculation, Noronha Lopes reiterated his commitment to stability, backing Bruno Lage to continue leading Benfica regardless of election results.

Amorim, a Benfica academy product, won three league titles before retiring early in 2017 and has never managed the Lisbon club, reports ESPN.

Manchester United have struggled under Amorim, finishing 15th last season and losing the Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur 1-0.

Meanwhile, Noronha Lopes highlighted his ambitious sporting project, including prioritizing a move for Bernardo Silva, who remains tied to Manchester City.
