Enzo Maresca’s comments to the media following Levi Colwill’s ACL injury made it plain that he wanted Chelsea to sign another centre defender. However, the club appeared to be confidence in the choices it already had. But just a month into the season, it appears that their confidence may have been misguided.
Chelsea’s defense has looked particularly fragile at the moment. And, while Josh Acheampong’s growth was cited as one of the reasons they were hesitant to sign another center-back, he has only been in one game thus far.
So this goes to indicate that Chelsea made a mistake in the summer and may now be regretting it. So much so that there are even whispers of them looking to sign centre-backs during the January transfer window.

According to journalist Simon Phillips on Substack, Bremer is on the Blues’ radar as the club considers a January deal for the centre-back. Juventus will not want to separate ways, but it would not be surprising if the Premier League heavyweights tested the waters nevertheless.
Chelsea are interested in signing Juventus center-back Bremer for £45 million in January. He was previously connected with Chelsea before joining Juventus. He was at Torino at the time and eventually joined the Italian club for roughly £45 million.
Bremer has been a starting centre-back for Juventus when he is fit and available. However, he has had his share of injury issues, having only recently recovered from an ACL tear.
Chelsea would be taking a significant risk by making any bid for him. They already have a handful of players who are prone to injury, and this was true before their transfer to Stamford Bridge.
