Renato Veiga, a Chelsea defender, has joined Juventus on loan until the end of the season, the club said.
The 21-year-old joined the Blues from Basel for roughly £12 million in the summer. Veiga, who primarily plays left defender, had 18 appearances for Chelsea this season, scoring two goals and assisting on another.
Enzo Maresca only trusted the defender in cup competitions, but Veiga is thought to have intended to ensure he played consistently in the second half of the 2024/25 season. According to the BBC, Juventus has agreed to cover the Portugal international’s salary as well as a £3.8 million loan fee, making the loan arrangement beneficial to both Chelsea and Veiga. The deal includes no option to buy.

In a statement, Chelsea said: “Chelsea defender Renato Veiga will spend the rest of the season on loan at Serie A club Juventus.” Veiga joined the Blues from FC Basel in July and has made 18 appearances in all competitions this season.
Veiga, who can also play as a midfielder, will wear the No.12 shirt at Juventus. Writing on Instagram after the move was completed, Veiga said: “Very happy to be a part of this great club!”
football.london initially anticipated that Veiga would only be permitted to depart this month on a permanent basis, with the club seeking a sum in the region of £20 million. That posture has definitely shifted, and the subject will most certainly be revisited in the summer.
It is understood that Veiga wants first-team football and is looking ahead to the 2026 World Cup with Portugal, where he hopes to gain a spot in Roberto Martinez’s squad.
