According to a recent rumor, Chelsea is pushing Liverpool for the signing of Bayern Munich star Dayot Upamecano.
After being impressed by the 26-year-old’s performances for RB Leipzig, the Bavarian club chose to sign him again in 2021. He has had considerable success at the Allianz Arena throughout the years, winning many league titles and a few big domestic cup competitions.
However, speculation over his future has emerged in recent weeks, as his current contract with Vincent Kompany’s club is set to expire at the end of the season.
According to a recent rumor (via TEAMtalk), Bayern Munich has been in a ‘poker game’ with Upamecano about extending his contract, but are unwilling to match his wage demands.

So Bayern Munich is anxious that they may lose the Frenchman, worth roughly £52 million, for free next summer, as they did with David Alaba a few years ago.
Chelsea are considering strengthening their centre-back department next year and have identified Upamecano as a viable alternative. However, the West London team will have heavy competition to sign him, as Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Inter Milan are also interested.

The Blues have struggled with fitness issues in the centre-back position this season, with Levi Colwill set to miss the majority of the season owing to a serious knee injury.
On the other side, Wesley Fofana has struggled to remain fit since signing from Leicester City a few years ago. Axel Disasi has fallen out of favour under Enzo Maresca and has yet to play a minute this season.
Liverpool, meanwhile, intended to strengthen its defensive line by acquiring Marc Guehi this summer. However, Crystal Palace refused to let him depart, and Arne Slot’s team has struggled defensively this season.
Upamecano was formerly inconsistent at Allianz Arena, but has improved significantly in recent years. He is still in the prime of his career, so he might be a terrific addition to Liverpool or Chelsea if either club can get his services next year.
