Chelsea are set to end Facundo Buonanotte’s loan spell early, with the Argentine midfielder closing in on a surprise move to Leeds United.
Buonanotte only joined Chelsea on loan from Brighton last summer, but the arrangement is now being cancelled midway through the season.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, all parties have approved the deal, and the 21-year-old is expected to undergo a medical with Leeds imminently, reports Caught Offside.
Romano confirmed the development on social media, stating that Chelsea will interrupt the loan, allowing Buonanotte to return briefly to Brighton before completing a new loan move to Elland Road until the end of the campaign.
The deal represents a sudden change in plans for the player, who struggled to break into Chelsea’s first team following his arrival.
Despite being viewed as a promising young talent, Buonanotte made just one Premier League appearance for the Blues and failed to establish himself under the current regime.
Chelsea And Brighton Agree On Fresh Loan Solution
Chelsea’s decision suggests the club believe Buonanotte is not yet ready to contribute consistently at Premier League level for a side pushing for European qualification.
In contrast, Leeds see the move as an opportunity to add creativity and technical quality to their squad as they battle to secure their top-flight status.

Buonanotte previously impressed in spells with Brighton, where his energy and attacking intelligence marked him out as one for the future.
He managed one goal in eight appearances across all competitions during his short Chelsea stint, but minutes were limited.
Leeds will now hope regular game time can help unlock his potential during the second half of the season, while Chelsea continue reshaping their squad for immediate impact.
