Dani Carvajal will reportedly face severe disciplinary action from UEFA’s Disciplinary Committee after being sent off during Real Madrid’s 2-1 Champions League victory over Olympique de Marseille.
The right-back was seen headbutting Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, earning him a red card in the 70th minute.
Referee Irfan Peljto had first done virtually nothing, but after consulting VAR and watching the video, he decided to dismiss the Real Madrid captain, who had entered the game very early following Trent Alexander-Arnold’s injury as he was not in the starting eleven.
According to Mundo Deportivo as reported by Madrid Universal, Carvajal could be facing a three-game suspension as a result of his red card incident against Marseille.

The referee’s recording of the incident in his match report now determines everything. The following are possible outcomes under Article 15 of UEFA’s Disciplinary Regulations, which addresses “misconduct of players or coaches”:
Carvajal would be suspended for a set amount of time or face two matches if his actions were judged to be major unsporting behavior (Article 15, point d).
The suspension increases to at least three games if it is deemed an act of hostility (Article 15, point e), or longer if UEFA deems the headbutt to be especially violent.
Carvajal could miss at least three games if the more severe interpretation is confirmed by the video.
Games Carvajal Could Miss
The Spaniard would not be able to play again until the fifth group-stage match against Manchester City on December 10 at the Santiago Bernabéu, if the three-match suspension is confirmed.
He would miss three important games in the period: Kairat Almaty (away), Juventus (home) and Liverpool (away).
