An honest Bruno Fernandes openly discussed Manchester United’s troubles, which led to Manchester City scoring the first goal in Sunday’s derby at the Etihad.
Some criticized Fernandes for allowing Phil Foden to run off him and score City’s opening goal.
Erling Haaland’s second-half brace clinched an eventual comfortable victory for Pep Guardiola’s side, leaving United with four points from four games ahead of their match against Chelsea.
Fernandes, who was once again placed in a deeper midfield role rather than an advanced No.10 position, talked candidly after the game, conceding that the outcome was inadequate while also detailing United’s tactical approach and what went wrong for City’s opener.

“I was trying to press Rodri because the aim for the game was for one of the midfielders to jump on Rodri and one of the defenders jumping on Foden,” he says. According To Manchester Evening News.
“In the first moment where I can cover both, Leny (Yoro) tries to approach, and I notice him and try to get a little closer to Rodri.
“(Josko) Gvardiol makes a nice pass, and Leny is going backwards, and due to a misunderstanding, we end up giving them too much space to go up the pitch.
“I believe that as we go, we should take more risks and be brave with the final line. When we transfer the ball backwards to our center backs, City goes three against three, and their line squeezes us so much that it is extremely tough to burst through the lines because the space is so tiny.”
