Bonucci Goes Viral After Brutal Tackle On Former Lioness At Soccer Aid

Juventus and Italy legend, Leonardo Bonucci went viral after his vicious tackle on former Lioness Steph Houghton at Soccer Aid.

Typically, Soccer Aid is a charity event that raises money for UNICEF by pitting celebrities and former professional athletes against one another in one of England’s biggest stadiums.

However, there was nothing amicable about the challenge when Steph Houghton raced through on goal for England and was scythed down by Leonardo Bonucci deep in the second half of this year’s game.

Houghton was okay and continued to play the rest of the game, but it took her a minute to get off the turf.

After the game, Houghton assured fans that she was okay. She even shared a photo of herself and Bonucci together on Instagram with the message, “She’s still alive!”

After a 22-year career, England legend and former WSL champion Steph Houghton resigned from football in 2024.

Houghton played for Leeds and Arsenal during her career, but she spent 12 years at the central defence with Manchester City.

During her career, Houghton won 16 domestic titles, including two WSL with Arsenal and one with City.

However, the defender’s international career will live on in memory, since Houghton is one of the most recognizable figures to have ever led the Lionesses.

Houghton played 121 games for England and was appointed captain in 2014.

The three-time WSL champion made semi-final appearances at the 2019 World Cup and the UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 and led England to a bronze medal in the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
