Bayern Munich Chief Claims Wirtz Made Mistake Joining Liverpool

Bayern Munich legend Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has questioned Florian Wirtz’s decision to join Liverpool, insisting the German star would suit Bayern better.

The 22-year-old midfielder completed a £116 million transfer from Bayer Leverkusen to Liverpool this summer, despite Bayern’s strong interest in securing him.

Wirtz was sensational in the Bundesliga last season, registering 21 goals and 25 assists. His form made him one of Europe’s hottest talents, reports Metro.

But since moving to Anfield, the Germany international has endured a slow start, failing to score or assist in six appearances.

Rummenigge Sends Bayern Warning

Speaking to SportBild, Rummenigge expressed regret that Bayern missed out. He suggested Wirtz’s development might stall in England’s demanding Premier League.

“I honestly feel sorry for Wirtz. He would be better off at Bayern Munich than Liverpool,” the former Bayern CEO declared.

Rummenigge also defended Bayern’s refusal to match Liverpool’s huge bid, stressing the club won’t pursue “financial madness” in transfer dealings.

Meanwhile, Wirtz insists he is unfazed by criticism. The playmaker vowed patience and promised Liverpool fans his breakthrough moment will soon arrive.

“Yes, I wanted goals and assists already,” Wirtz admitted to Sky Germany. “But I’ll stay calm and keep improving.”
