Barnsley Manager Slams ‘Disrespectful’ Dominik Szoboszlai After Liverpool Error

Barnsley manager Conor Hourihane accused Dominik Szoboszlai of disrespect following the strange goal that gave the League One side a chance to upset Liverpool in the FA Cup. Szoboszlai and Jeremie Frimpong scored just before halftime in the Reds’ third round match at Anfield on Monday evening.

However, Szoboszlai made a terrible mistake soon before halftime, mishitting a weird attempted backheel inside his own six-yard box towards goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, allowing former Reds striker Adam Phillips to slip in and score.

Hourihane was unimpressed with the Liverpool midfielder’s behavior. Reported By Echo News.

“First and foremost, it’s such an amazing feeling for Adam to score in front of the Kop,” remarked the Barnsley manager. “He is a Liverpool supporter who came up through our Academy and had a great game.

“To be honest, I am a little unhappy with their player. I thought he was slightly disrespectful.

“I don’t believe he does that against Chelsea, Arsenal, or in a Champions League game. “Delighted for Adam, but disrespectful of their player.”

Szoboszlai was also engaged in a second-half incident in which Barnsley called for a penalty when the Liverpool player challenged Reyes Cleary within the area.

And Hourihane continued: “I thought at time it was stonewall, but looking back at it the player does get a little bit of a touch on the ball but he’s gone into panic mode, he’s got hold of his shirt and it’s easily a decision that could go the other way.”

Barnsley kept the score at 2-1 before Liverpool scored twice late on through replacements Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike, securing a fourth-round tie at home to Brighton next month.
