Barcelona’s Youngster May Need Surgery After A Fresh Injury Blow

FC Barcelona teenager Dani Rodriguez suffered  new injury this weekend while playing for the reserve club, Barça Atletic, against UD Barbastro.

The 20-year-old winger, who was sidelined for more than three months in the summer of 2025 owing to surgery on a dislocated shoulder, has now sustained a catastrophic leg injury.

Dani Rodriguez could undergo surgery

According to SPORT, testing revealed a partial tear of the quadriceps tendon in his knee, which may necessitate surgery.

It’s a severe setback for Rodriguez, who was having his greatest season and had returned to a high level of play, reopening the door to first-team call-ups.

The incident happened during an individual action in a game versus Barbastro. Dani confronted his defender on the right flank, trying to beat him, and felt a severe ache in his leg. He collapsed and quickly phoned for help.

The La Masia prodigy’s motions and his teammates’ reactions already indicated that the matter was serious. The player had to leave the field on a stretcher and was replaced by Oscar Gistau, giving an impression of great anxiety.

The diagnosis confirms the greatest suspicions while ruling out any involvement of the anterior cruciate ligament. However, a partial tear of the quadriceps tendon will cause him to halt in the midst of his good form.

The player and the club are currently awaiting the next step. In the next hours, it will be decided if the treatment will be conservative or surgical, which will affect the length of his rehabilitation.

In any case, the layoff will be extended, necessitating patience from a talented young footballer on the verge of breaking into the first squad.
