Barcelona’s Plan To Sign Teenage Wonderkid Hinges On Decision Over 27-Year-Old Forward’s Future

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona is closely examining Marcus Rashford’s performances before determining whether to extend his loan from Manchester United.

The team is also still keeping an eye on Cardoso Varela, a young Portuguese winger who is rapidly becoming known as one of Europe’s most promising up-and-coming talents.

It should be mentioned that Barcelona signed Rashford on a season-long loan last summer following fruitless attempts to capture Luis Diaz and Nico Williams.

The 27-year-old has subsequently made an impression under Hansi Flick after coming to Spain with the intention of reviving his career. He has adapted to the coach’s style more easily than anticipated.

His quickness, movement off the ball, and link-up play have given Barça’s offensive much-needed variation.

With three goals and five assists to date, he has shown glimpses of the dynamic player he used to be at Old Trafford.

Barcelona is not going to act hastily.

However, Rashford’s performance in the upcoming months will be crucial in determining whether Barcelona decides to use the €30 million purchase option.

Although Flick values his professionalism and experience, every significant acquisition must be completely justified due to the club’s budgetary prudence.

The team wants to see if the forward can continue to play at this level during a challenging season that involves Champions League and La Liga obligations.

In the meantime, Cardoso Varela, the 16-year-old phenom from Dinamo Zagreb, is also gaining notice.

What is the position of Barcelona?

Before Varela joined Dinamo, Barcelona invited him to visit their training facilities and had been keeping an eye on him for a while. Varela would cost about €5 million.

Scouts have been further persuaded by his development with the Portuguese young teams that he might prove to be a worthwhile long-term investment.

Barcelona is currently juggling two timelines, with Varela standing in for the future and Rashford for the present.

Last but not least, Chelsea is also interested in acquiring the youthful prodigy and would compete with Barcelona for his services when the time is appropriate.
