Barcelona’s Maestro Urges For Self-Reflection Following Defeat To Sevilla “We Didn’t Know How To Attack Or Defend”

Barcelona player Pedri did not mince words after his team’s crushing 1-4 loss to Sevilla, which has the Catalans trailing Real Madrid in the La Liga rankings.

The performance fell far short of expectations at Barça, and the defeat derailed what had been a respectable start to the season under Hansi Flick.

After the game, Pedri was brutally honest about what went wrong, blaming the team’s lack of enthusiasm and structure.

“Awful We haven’t played a worse game than today’s. Reported By 90 Min.

“We have to be self-critical, recover now, and those of us who are playing with the national team can play there, but when we return, we have to think and reflect so that it doesn’t happen again,” the attacking midfielder explained.

Pedri emphasizes lack of passion and control.

The young Spaniard explained how Sevilla’s pressure absolutely disrupted Barcelona’s rhythm.

“With the ball, we didn’t know how to get out of the one-on-one pressure they applied. We lacked defensive vigor. We struggled to attack and defend effectively in the first half.

“We need to improve a number of things to keep the great momentum going. We must be critical of ourselves and examine the mistakes we have made.

“The manager and I will work on improving them after the break.”

Pedri went on to say that the team was once again struggling with energy and attention. “In the first half, we lacked intensity and quality on the ball. We weren’t sure what to do with it.

“They have won every duel against us. They understood how to attack us. We pushed our line when we shouldn’t have, particularly with the ball.

“They attacked us one on one, and we didn’t know how to deal with the strain.

Regarding Lewandowski’s missed penalty

When asked about Robert Lewandowski’s missed penalty, Pedri minimized its significance but acknowledged that it may have changed the outcome.

“These are opportunities that can make a significant difference in a game, but you can miss a penalty. You should not see this as a result.

“We didn’t do well during the contest. We had the opportunity to equalise, but we need to be more self-critical and improve our performance in matches.”

Finally, Pedri commented on a contentious situation involving Sevilla’s second goal, implying the referee’s inconsistent performance.

“I witnessed Kounde’s foul from the sidelines, and the referee informed me it was too minor. Then, on another occasion, I told Sevilla it was too minor, and he agreed.

I’m not sure why he calls it sometimes and not others. “If VAR hadn’t called it, it wouldn’t have been a foul,” he said.
