Barcelona are currently racing against the clock to clear up payroll space in order to register the players without a first-team number this week ahead of their game against Levante.
Inaki Pena’s departure might be resolved quickly and would somewhat improve the situation, but final negotiations are still needed for Oriol Romeu’s departure.
SPORT claims that the absence of Barcelona’s sporting director Deco has caused a delay in the negotiations to terminate Romeu’s contract, and that a final meeting is needed to complete the transfer.
The midfielder, who has made things less difficult for the team, is awaiting Barcelona’s final offer before accepting one of the options on the table, so there isn’t an agreement as of yet.

Romeu’s contract is still in effect for another year. Although his pay is not the highest in the team, it is substantial enough to deter potential clubs from signing him. The player will require pay-off from Barcelona, and the amount is already being discussed.
The agreement might be set up as a loan, with Barca paying a portion of the wages, or as a contract termination, in which case the club would give the player money to let him sign with another team.
Romeu has a number of choices, mostly from La Liga teams, although MLS teams are also interested in him.
The midfielder himself is eager to end this chapter as quickly as possible so that he could join a new club, with Girona, Sevilla, Valencia, and Real Oviedo all awaiting his decision.
