According to Fernando Polo‘s report in Mundo Deportivo, Nico Williams will soon meet with his family and representatives to make a definitive decision on Barcelona’s offer, as the winger must say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to joining the club.
The journalist notes that Nico’s primary preference is still Barcelona, but negotiations encountered a stumbling block at the end of last week, halting progress on the agreement.
The issue is Nico’s desire for a particular guarantee. He wants a clause in his contract that says if Barcelona cannot register him in La Liga, he may depart freely.
However, Barça rejected this concept because it may lead to major legal complications. Barcelona is certain that it will meet La Liga’s 1:1 financial requirement by selling players, arranging loans, and renewing contracts.
They expect that these steps will free up enough payroll space to properly register Nico. However, for the agreement to be successful, Nico and his camp must trust the club’s plan.
Barcelona face race against time
Barcelona does not want to take any excessive risks, and they are hoping Nico would trust that they can register him without incident.

One option the club is considering is allowing Nico to depart if they are unable to register him; however, the new team would have to pay the same amount Barça would have spent to recruit him.
Regarding Nico’s buyout clause, which is €58 million plus inflation adjustments, bringing the total close to €62 million, negotiation sources have stated that no agreement can move further until Nico says ‘yes’.
Only then may contracts be created, approved, signed, and the buyout clause properly paid.
Nico’s representative would then transmit the money on behalf of Barcelona, along with all necessary documentation demonstrating the payment came from the club. However, the club has stated that this process will not occur this week.
