Barcelona Superstar Withdraws From National Team Duties Due To ‘Lack Of Confidence In The Coach’

Several FC Barcelona players benefited from Hansi Flick’s appointment on the Blaugrana bench, including Polish striker Robert Lewandowski, who returned to his peak performance under the German coach.

Despite being 36 years old, the Pole had an excellent 2024-25 season, scoring 42 goals in 52 games and competing for the Pichichi trophy until the end of the season.

However, following a successful season with Barcelona, the Pole has faced criticism from his national squad. After missing the previous national team call-up, the veteran striker sparked even more controversy lately when he announced his resignation from national team duties.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona striker announced his decision on social media, blaming one person: Michal Probierz, the Polish national team coach.

“Given the circumstances and my lack of confidence in the coach, I have chosen to withdraw from playing for the national team as long as he is in charge. I wish to play again for the world’s top national team.”

Conflict with the coach at a crucial time

This revelation surprised the Polish Football Federation and had a big influence on their team, which is still competing in the World Cup 2026 qualification process.

Lewandowski did not provide any answers in his social media post, but media reports suggest that the coach’s preference for captaincy is one of the primary points of conflict between him and the Barcelona star.

This conflict came to the forefront when he declined his final national team call-up for matches against Moldova and Finland. However, Robert Lewandowski justified his decision by citing exhaustion from a long season of games.

However, he has already left his national team, and it is unclear whether he will play for Poland again.
