Barcelona are reportedly plotting a loan move for Manchester United midfielder, Kobbie Mainoo in the January transfer window following a long-term injury to Gavi.
Gavi had a knee procedure, according to the La Liga defending champions, and will be out for at least the next four to five months as he recovers.
“First team player Pablo Paez Gavira ‘Gavi’ has had an arthroscopy to resolve a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus,” Barcelona said in a statement. “Recovery time is estimated at around 4-5 months.”
Given that the 21-year-old had already sustained an ACL damage in the same knee during his career, concerns regarding his long-term fitness are understandable, and Barcelona will take their time in helping him recover fully from the injury.

Since no risks will be taken, it is understood that he may be missing for a longer period of time, even if the recovery period has been set at four to five months.
Barcelona Preparing A Loan Move For Mainoo
According to Fichajes as claimed by Sports Mole, Barcelona are prepared to respond during the January transfer window and are getting ready to contact Man United over a loan deal for Mainoo.
According to the source, talks between the two clubs may “accelerate” in the upcoming weeks, and the La Liga winners may include the option to buy in the possible deal.
After being left out of the starting lineup in early stages of the 2025–26 season, Mainoo asked to go on loan from Man United in the latter part of the summer transfer window.
Given that Real Madrid, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City are rumored to be interested in the 20-year-old, the midfielder seems to be quite worried about his lack of playing time during a World Cup year.
