Barcelona Set For Montjuic Return Amid Camp Nou Setback

Barcelona are reportedly working round the clock in order to make a return to Camp Nou possible in the coming month, but they have a backup plan in case something goes wrong once more.

Mundo Deportivo claims that the club and the city of Barcelona reached an agreement on Tuesday to use the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium until the end of February 2026.

This agreement will allow the Catalans to host all UEFA Champions League “League Phase” matches, as well as a possible Playoff matchup if Barça place between 9th and 24th in the new format of the European competition.

According to UEFA’s rules, a team must host League Phase games at the same venue. Therefore, if Camp Nou isn’t ready for Barca’s first home game, they will have to play at Montjuïc until the end of the group phase.

If the Blaugrana’s original plan to host Valencia at Camp Nou on September 13–14 doesn’t work out, they will be permitted to play La Liga home games at other locations. This means they can return to Camp Nou as soon as possible for league games and simply use Montjuïc for European nights.

However, it’s crucial to note that the home game against Valencia is not included in the agreement to use Montjuïc because the stadium is hosting a concert that weekend.

If Camp Nou isn’t prepared to welcome supporters in time, Barca would have to find a different venue.

If that happens, there are now two contingency plans in place: either playing Valencia at Camp Nou behind closed doors or shifting the match to Montilivi, which has a capacity of little over 14,000 and is home to Barca’s local rivals Girona.
