Barcelona Risk FIFA Wrath Over Deal For ‘Kidnapped’ Wonderkid

Barcelona are reportedly at risk of facing sanction from FIFA over the signing of Cardoso Varela from Dinamo Zagreb.

The 16-year-old made the move to Croatia from one of the best academies in Europe at Porto.

Agent Andy Bara, who represents former player Mikayil Faye, Dani Olmo, and target Joan Garcia, has a close relationship with Barcelona.

The Blaugrana have been considering Varela for a while, and it has been claimed that they are currently negotiating a deal with Dinamo.

According to reports, they are nearing an agreement to sign Varela, which would cost them €5 million with a further €20 million in variables.

On Thursday, Bara was spotted chatting with President Joan Laporta and the Sporting Director Deco. The 16-year-old would then spend the upcoming season in Croatia with Dinamo before moving to Barcelona the following summer.

Porto President, Andre Vilas-Boas has written to Barcelona to express their frustration about the situation, according to Record as reported by Football Espana.

Since the issue with FIFA is still pending and the Portuguese giants still consider Varela to be their player legally, they threaten to sever ties with Barcelona should a contract for Varela be finalized.

Sport claims that if the deal goes through, Porto will file a complaint against Barcelona to FIFA. The club accused Varela’s attorneys of malicious activity.

According to Porto, the footballer was “kidnapped” and sent to Croatia so that his agents and lawyers could profit.

Although UEFA have not yet intervened in the issue, FIFA are still handling their appeal.

The Catalan newspaper claims that despite the threats, Barcelona plan to proceed with the acquisition since they believe FIFA’s original verdict gives them the go-ahead.
