Barcelona Refuse To Play Postponed Osasuna Match Unless Two Key Stars Are Available

Barcelona is still unsure when their postponed match against Osasuna will be played, with conversations underway to find an acceptable date.

In that sense, Mundo Deportivo says that both La Liga and the RFEF have proposed March 27 as a feasible date, which would fall directly after the international break.

However, Barcelona is not totally sold on this proposal—not because of scheduling difficulties, but because of the possible impact on their squad.

Scheduling is one aspect of it.

If the match is played on March 27, Barcelona’s La Liga encounter against Girona on March 30 at Montjuïc will need to be pushed back from 16:15 to 21:00 to enable appropriate recovery time.

Even with this change, the club will have only three days before facing Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Copa del Rey semifinals on April 2.

The main problem for Barcelona is the availability of their key international players, many of whom will only return on March 25.

The main difficulty is Raphinha and Ronald Araujo, whose return timelines are particularly tight.

Brazil will play Argentina on March 26, making it practically impossible for Raphinha to recover fully in time for the Osasuna match.

Meanwhile, Araujo will remain with Uruguay, who play on March 25, leaving little time for recovery. Given these circumstances, Barcelona is unwilling to go with the match if they are without crucial players.

Alternative dates.

Barcelona is pushing for May 21, which is just before La Liga’s final matchday.

However, Osasuna is opposed to this arrangement since it would require playing in the closing stretch of the season, when a lot is at stake.

Other options exist, but their viability is dependent on Barcelona’s performance in the Copa del Rey. If they do not qualify for the semifinals, the match may be moved to April 29 or 30, or maybe May 6 or 7, during what would have been the semifinals’ return leg.

The final decision is still pending, with all parties considering the best potential outcome.
