Barcelona Ready To Request An Extra Loan Of €500 Million To Accomplish The Camp Nou Project

Despite the club’s market efforts, Barcelona’s financial condition regarding the Camp Nou reconstruction has changed dramatically.

And now, in a dramatic development, it looks that the Catalans will require a significant additional injection of finances to complete the massive Espai Barca project.

According to Catalunya Radio, Barcelona will seek an additional €400 million to €500 million on top of the €1.45 billion already secured from a consortium of investors led by Goldman Sachs.

Why is additional money needed?

As previously reported, Barcelona recognized that the first financing was insufficient to finish the entire scope of the project.

Neither the Spotify Camp Nou restoration nor the other facilities that comprise Espai Barca, such as the Palau Blaugrana and the expansion of the region surrounding the former Les Corts stadium, were completed within the intended budget.

Construction delays and prices that beyond earlier predictions have forced the club to seek extra loans.

Joan Laporta’s board is anticipated to present the proposal at either the Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for next July, at which the president-elect will also choose his new governing body, or the Ordinary General Meeting at the start of next season.

The Camp Nou is now undergoing gradual renovations, with VIP tier work projected to last until the summer of 2027.

The last stage, which includes compression rings and roof installation, will necessitate the team’s temporary relocation for the start of the 2027-28 season.

For a team that is also targeting huge acquisitions such as Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva, the added financial strain is something they could do without.
