Marc Ciria, the new presidential candidate for Barcelona, has promised to do “whatever it takes” to reunite Camp Nou with club legend Lionel Messi.
Ciria has entered the race alongside current club boss Joan Laporta, Victor Font, and Xavi Vilajoana for the club’s 2026 presidential election.
The presidential candidate asserts that Barcelona “need” Messi back, although he did not elaborate on the potential role for the Argentina star.
Ciria has emerged as the most recent contender for the 2026 presidential election in Barcelona.

According to AS as reported by Goal, the financier announced the launch of “Moviment 42” (Movement 42), his electoral platform ahead of the upcoming elections in a gathering that was attended by some 700 people.
Ciria wants to give members a more powerful voice and has promised to assist in resolving the club’s ongoing financial problems.
Additionally, he stated that the Catalan giants still need the World Cup champion and that he wants to see Messi back to the club he departed in 2021.
‘We Need Messi’ – Circa Claims
Ciria was asked about Messi during a question-and-answer session with club members and replied: “We already said in 2021 that he was the best generational bridge in sporting terms and an economic engine.
“We need Leo Messi and we will do whatever it takes to bring him back.”
However, Ciria did not elaborate on Messi’s potential role. The 38-year-old recently agreed to a three-year contract extension with Major League Soccer side, Inter Miami indicating that it is quite improbable he will play again to support Hansi Flick’s current Barcelona team.
Though, Messi has made it clear that he wants to move back to Barcelona to live with his family after his stint at MLS is over.
