Real Madrid’s signing of Kylian Mbappe sparked fears across Europe about the Merengues’ strength.
After all, he is one of the best players in the world, and the prospect of him joining Real Madrid’s locker room was terrifying.
In particular, the Vinicius Jr.-Mbappe dynamic was considered as a huge weapon for Real Madrid on the counter, as both players have blazing pace and superb finishing.
While the combination has not worked out as well as expected thus far, it is apparent that the two are improving as a team with each passing day.
Barcelona midfielder’s thoughts
In a recent interview with El Hormiguero, Barcelona great and Spanish national team mainstay Pedri Gonzalez was asked which Real Madrid player he would sign for the Catalans if given the opportunity.
He immediately prompted his club teammate Ferran Torres, who was seated next to him, and the two agreed instantly, saying, “Yes, Mbappe.”

He was then asked to select a player he would not want to meet in a speed battle on the field, and he chose two Real Madrid players.
“A player I wouldn’t want to face in a speed duel? Almost everyone thinks I’m a little slow.”
“Mbappe and Vinicius. When the ball reaches Vinícius Junior, you can only pray. “He runs three times faster than me,” he explained.
In the first Clasico of the season, the two gave Barcelona and Pedri a run for their money, creating multiple counter-attacking opportunities, with the midfielder even receiving a red card late in the game.
When they met in the Spanish Super Cup final, Pedri and Barcelona controlled possession and chance creation, leaving Real Madrid with little opportunity to create anything constructive.
What is evident, however, is that Barcelona players understand how Mbappe and Vinicius’ quickness can expose them on the field, particularly considering their style of play.
