Barcelona Issue Fitness Update On Joan Garcia

Fears concerning Joan Garcia have been officially allayed, giving Barcelona a much-needed boost ahead of their next La Liga match.

After completing medical testing on Thursday morning, the goalkeeper, who raised concerns during yesterday’s match against Newcastle United, has been deemed fit.

The 24-year-old will be eligible for selection against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday since the club announced that no injury has been found.

“Following today’s tests, Joan Garcia has been cleared with no injury and will be available for selection,” read the official statement from the club as reported by Barca Universal.

For Hansi Flick, it is a huge relief, particularly at this stage of the season when momentum is developing and team consistency is essential.

What Happened To Garcia?

Garcia’s gesture to the bench in the 80th minute of the match against Newcastle was the first indicator of worry.

He was stretching to deflect a shot from Harvey Barnes when the event happened. Even though he finished the action, his initial response indicated discomfort.

Garcia was clearly in discomfort as he stood back up and kept groping down to his left calf. Concern among teammates and staff increased when he lay down on the field a little while later and even pulled down his sock to examine the affected area.

Following a rapid on-field evaluation, the medical staff recommended an instant substitution.

Garcia was able to go on his own, although it was evident from his expression that something was wrong at the time.
