Barcelona Facing Goalkeeping Crisis As Club Legend Issues Warning

Barcelona are heading toward a goalkeeping dilemma after manager Hansi Flick informed Marc-André ter Stegen he’s no longer first choice.

Legendary ex-Valencia keeper Santiago Cañizares has publicly warned Barça that this situation “won’t have a happy ending” without decisive action soon.

Despite Ter Stegen’s contract running until 2028, he’s unwilling to leave and remains committed to the club despite being replaced.

Barça recently signed Joan García, a promising but cheaper alternative, signaling their intent to move on from the German veteran.

Cañizares believes this transition has been poorly managed and will only cause internal unrest unless resolved swiftly and transparently.

“You can’t expect a smooth exit when the player isn’t looking to leave and no club can afford him,” he said.

He also stressed the financial issue: “Ter Stegen’s wages are high and few clubs need a top keeper right now.”

Barcelona’s hopes of a clean goalkeeping transition now hinge on either a drastic Ter Stegen change of heart or an unlikely offer, reports Barca Universal.

Flick’s decision may benefit the club long-term, but the short-term fallout could destabilize both dressing room dynamics and fan sentiment.

Barcelona must now act with clarity or risk alienating a loyal club servant in Ter Stegen.
