Barcelona Defensive Target Offered New €8 Million Contract By Current Club

Nico Schlotterbeck might become a crucial player in the upcoming summer transfer window. The left-footed Borussia Dortmund defender has sparked interest from several big European teams, including Barcelona.

The 25-year-old German international perfectly matches the profile sought by Barça director Deco, and his contractual situation puts him squarely in the transfer spotlight.

After all, his contract with Borussia Dortmund finishes in 2027, thus he will be in the final year of his contract by next summer.

Borussia Dortmund wishes to preserve Schlotterbeck.

However, according to BILD (via SPORT), Borussia Dortmund has already offered Schlotterbeck a contract extension until 2030 in an attempt to ensure his future.

Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl has already contacted the defender’s representatives to offer a big salary boost.

Schlotterbeck currently earns around €2.5 million per season, and the German club has offered him a deal worth up to €8 million, which includes fixed and performance-based bonuses. The offer, however, may not be sufficient to persuade him.

Furthermore, Schlotterbeck is not in a hurry to renew and declared a few days ago that he does not intend to sign anything at the present.

“Of course, there is mutual appreciation, but to be honest, I don’t think I’ll be renewing my contract anytime soon,” he remarked.

Schlotterbeck could be receptive to a Barcelona move.

According to the report, Schlotterbeck would be very interested in a move to Barcelona, and manager Hansi Flick has very positive reports on him.

Bayern Munich has also expressed interest in the 25-year-old centre-back, although Dortmund would prefer to transfer him abroad if necessary, while the player himself want to leave Germany.

Schlotterbeck’s market value is at around €45 million. However, if Dortmund is forced to sell him with only one year remaining on his contract, they will most likely have to decrease their demands to prevent losing him for free in 2027.
