During the announcement of his contract renewal, Barcelona defender Eric Garcia shared his thoughts on Real Madrid’s most recent Champions League loss to Manchester City.
Garcia mentioned his previous affiliation with the English team when questioned about City’s triumph.
He reminded the audience of the emotional connection he still has with his former comrades before expressing his opinions.
“When your former teams succeed, you’re always pleased. They’re a fantastic team, and I’m pleased with their successes. “Not just yesterday’s, but generally,” he stated, as reported by SPORT.
Regarding Real Madrid’s dismal recent performance
Despite their neutral tone, those remarks are made during a difficult period for Real Madrid this season.
The Spanish powerhouses have had a difficult run since defeating Barcelona in the first Clasico of the 2025–2026 season, which has been mostly caused by injuries and a heavy schedule rather than a lack of competitiveness.
They have only achieved two victories, three losses, and three draws in their last eight games, which is indicative of both exhaustion and the coaching staff’s frequent reorganization.

Garcia also discussed Madrid’s performance, but he did so while stressing that challenging times do not characterize top clubs and acknowledging how unpredictable a football season can be.
He emphasized how tumultuous lengthy campaigns can be.
“It seemed like we were throwing away the season after El Clasico and Chelsea, but it doesn’t signify anything.
“There are good and bad eras in football. We had a challenging beginning due to several injuries. When something goes wrong for a competitor, I will never be pleased.
Real Madrid is still full despite the commotion around the outcome.
