Barcelona’s timeframe plans with the renovation works on Spotify Camp Nou has recently gone horribly wrong, and the situation is just getting worse.
The intended comeback date was originally set for midway through last season, but was pushed back to the Joan Gamper Trophy earlier this month due to construction delays.
The club failed to meet that goal as well, and it was expected that the first home game of the season would be against Valencia on September 13-14.
Now, however, the government is racing against time to meet that target, and the situation does not seem good, especially given how much each day of delay damages budgetary estimates.
A game behind closed doors
As reported earlier this week, Barcelona is racing against the clock to obtain an occupation permission from the City Council in order to reopen the Camp Nou against Valencia, which can seat at least 27,000 people.
Helena Condis Reported that the team may not receive the necessary permission in time for the season’s first home game.

As things stand, it might be played behind closed doors, with no fans to cheer the squad on.
In anticipation of this, Barcelona has initiated conversations with the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys in Montjuic about possibly using the facility again.
However, the stadium is scheduled to hold a Post Malone concert just two days before the game and will most likely be unable to accommodate the event.
Barcelona must thus reconsider their intentions, and quickly, because playing a game behind closed doors would be disastrous not only economically, but also for the players’ morale in an important game.
It remains to be seen whether the club can find a method to host the game at Montjuic barely 48 hours after a huge event, or if it can expedite talks with the City Council regarding the occupation permit.
Given the remaining flaws in the work on the two stands, the Catalans aim to reopen in phase 1, but the prospects of that happening are modest.
