FC Barcelona’s fourth pre-season training session took place this morning at Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper.
In the first and only session of the day, Hansi Flick was once again unable to rely on Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who continues to train separately in the gym owing to chronic back problems, according to SPORT.
Ter Stegen has not trained with the rest of the squad since the start of pre-season. He worked within the gym facilities for Monday’s session and the double-session on Tuesday for the third day in a row.
At 08:15 today, the German goalkeeper arrived at the club’s facilities. Before entering the Ciutat Esportiva, he quickly stopped his automobile a few metres away to sign autographs for a few of teenage fans.
When he arrived, he trained separately from the rest of the group because he is still suffering from a back problem.
No longer number one
Barcelona has already notified Ter Stegen, in a meeting with Hansi Flick, that he is no longer considered the first-choice goalkeeper.

Joan Garcia will be the main goalkeeper at the Spotify Camp Nou, with Wojciech Szczesny serving as the backup after recently extending his contract until 2027.
Meanwhile, Inaki Pena is no longer in the club’s plans, and the sporting department is preparing for his departure. This recent training session had all three goalkeepers.
Ter Stegen, the first-team captain, is under contract with Barcelona for the next three seasons, until 2028.
The 33-year-old’s pay is among the highest in the team, and the club is presently looking for methods to lower the wage bill, which could include finding a solution to his contract.
However, the German refuses to give up and is determined to battle for his place and restore the starting position.
