In a bitter setback for FC Barcelona, manager Hansi Flick will miss Sunday’s vital match against Real Madrid owing to a one-match suspension.
Flick was sent off by referee Gil Manzano this weekend following Barcelona’s late 2-1 victory against Girona at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys.
The Blaugrana challenged the judgment and, as revealed by president Joan Laporta, filed an appeal to have the manager’s red card revoked.
However, the RFEF confirmed that Barcelona’s appeal was denied, and Flick’s dismissal for receiving two yellow cards in a row was justified.
“It is appropriate to dismiss the request to nullify the double booking that is the subject of this appeal,” the statement said.

“Consequently, it is decided to uphold the disciplinary consequences arising from the expulsion of Mr. Hans-Dieter Flick, proceeding with the imposition of a one-match suspension as provided for in Article 120 of the RFEF Disciplinary Code, along with the corresponding additional fines in accordance with Article 52.” According to 90 min.
As a result, the German tactician will miss one match owing to suspension, which means he will not be on the bench when Barcelona face Real Madrid this Sunday at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Marcus Sorg, Flick’s assistant, is set to lead the team in his absence for this weekend’s Clasico.
