Arteta Urges Arsenal Board To Give ‘Really Important Player’ New Contract

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has reportedly urged the club’s board to reward Thomas Partey with a new contract.

Partey, 31, who has been a vital cog in Arsenal’s midfield is set to leave the Emirates this season as a free agent.

Clubs in Saudi Arabia are reportedly interested in him, as is his previous team, Atletico Madrid.

According to The Mirror, Arteta has already stated that the “intention is very clear,” implying that Arsenal are prepared to offer Partey, who has made 50 appearances this season, a new contract.

But when asked directly if he wants Partey to stay, Arteta said: “Yes. There are question marks on a few of them so we’ll have to wait and see.

“But in regards to Thomas, consistency-wise, it’s been his best season. The way he’s played, performed, and his availability has been exceptional. He is a really important player for us.”

Both Jorginho and Kieran Tierney have contracts expiring this summer, and they are scheduled to play their final Arsenal games against Southampton on Sunday.

With their Champions League qualification assured and on track to finish second in the Premier League for the third consecutive season, Arsenal will travel to the south coast for their final match of the season.

It will be a crucial summer for Arsenal as they look to add a striker with Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig, Sporting Lisbon striker, Viktor Gyokeres and Newcastle’s Alexander Isak all potential candidates to move to north London,
