Arteta Says Arsenal Learnt Lesson From Lewis-Skelly’s Haaland Celebration

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed his team has “learnt” from Myles Lewis-Skelly’s mock celebration against Manchester City last season.

Lewis-Skelly imitated Erling Haaland’s zen pose after scoring in Arsenal’s emphatic 5-1 victory at the Emirates earlier this year.

The teenager’s act drew criticism, but Arteta insists his squad have taken the episode as a learning experience ahead of Sunday’s clash.

Arsenal face Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend in a match that has grown increasingly heated in recent years.

Tensions escalated further when Haaland told Arteta to “stay humble” after a 2-2 draw at the Etihad last season.

Arsenal sweating over injury concerns

The Gunners were without Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard, and Ben White during their midweek Champions League victory over Athletic Bilbao.

Arteta admitted the trio have yet to train and will face late fitness tests before the weekend’s huge Premier League showdown.

He explained the medical staff are working carefully, but decisions will likely come after their final training session on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Viktor Gyokeres is available despite requiring stitches after clashing heads with teammate Gabriel during the midweek European clash.

Away from team news, Arsenal announced the departure of vice-chair Tim Lewis, a trusted boardroom ally to Arteta in recent years, reports Independent.

The 62-year-old played a key role in Arsenal’s £250 million summer rebuild but stepped aside following the latest ownership reshuffle.

Arteta praised Lewis, expressing gratitude for his guidance, and insisted the club’s future remains bright under the leadership of Josh Kroenke.

The Arsenal boss believes the team and board are aligned in vision, and he expects “big things ahead” for the Gunners.
