Arsenal is continuing to work on Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko as they look to sign a striker this month.
The club had gone into the window debating between the Slovenian and Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, but it is understood Sesko is now leading, with further names being explored as backup alternatives.
The Arsenal ownership and the majority of the hierarchy believe Sesko offers the best overall package, given his talent at the age of 21 and his potential for development. He has always been thought to have a higher ceiling than Gyokeres, with the caveat that the latter is in his prime at 26.
According to one viewpoint, missing out on Sesko now could be equivalent to missing out on another Alexander Isak.

There is still internal debate about his price, which might increase to £75 million. That is one of the reasons why the club has become cooler on Gyokeres. The Sporting striker is widely seen as pricey in the market, particularly given the qualifiers that come with the fact that the majority of his goals have come in Portugal for one of their top three clubs.
Instead, the Arsenal administration has raised the possibility of re-signing Ollie Watkins, citing the relatively low fee for a proven Premier League scorer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal has little anxiety over Martin Zubimendi’s recent comments. The Real Sociedad midfielder raised further questions about his future after praising new Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso. These are still being understood as standard media duty conversation following an international break. Zubimendi is still expected to sign for Arsenal.
