The player fondly known as ‘Mr Composure’ is set to leave Arsenal this summer, maybe leaving his shirt number as a welcome present for Viktor Gyokeres.
Oleksandr Zinchenko is expected to leave the Emirates Stadium after three seasons with the Gunners. As Mikel Arteta searches for a new striker, Zinchenko’s likely departure might free up the number 17 for Gyokeres, should Arsenal decides to sign the Sporting CP star.
Gyokeres has worn the No. 9 jersey during his great career in Portugal. However, Gabriel Jesus presently holds that position at Arsenal.
The number 17 also has importance for the Swedish forward. He had previously worn it when playing for Coventry City, IF Brommapojkarna, and his national team.

Arteta is currently rumored to be interested in signing Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig to improve his attacking lineup. However, if plans move to Gyokeres, the number appears to be accessible for the 27-year-old, if Zinchenko receives permission to leave north London.
Despite the fact that Zinchenko appears to be surplus to requirements at Arsenal, his teammates and boss have long admired the Ukrainian star. Declan Rice once dubbed him ‘Mr Composure’.
Arteta stated after Zinchenko’s error in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory against Wolves in December 2023: “You have to love him for who he is. Each player has strengths and shortcomings. Alex has a lot more strengths.”
Arsenal have apparently set a £17 million price tag for Zinchenko, with AC Milan willing to pay. However, given that he only has one year on his contract, the Gunners are apparently willing to accept a reduced fee.
