Arsenal Set To Uphold Tradition Ahead Of Liverpool Clash

Arsenal are reportedly set to give Liverpool a guard of honour ahead of their visit to Anfield on Sunday.

There is nothing in the Premier League rules requiring clubs to offer a guard of honor, hence they are not required to.

However, over time, the gesture has become customary, and last weekend, Chelsea gave a guard of honor to Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal and Liverpool had been vying for the the title, but they have slowed down recently and could finish outside the top two.

Under Mikel Arteta, the Gunners had previously presented Liverpool with a guard of honor at the conclusion of the 2019–20 campaign.

According to The Evening Standard, Arteta praised Liverpool as deserving Premier League champions.

“Nobody should be surprised because they have the level and they made it because they’ve done a lot of things very, very well,” he said.

“So they deserve to be champions. They deserve to win it, they’ve done it in a manner, in a way that has given no chance to the others and you have to congratulate that.

“It’s sport as well and you have to accept the reasons why you haven’t been able to achieve it and try to improve, that’s it.

It can be part of your motivation, that’s not the biggest part, my motivations are much more focused in other aspects than that one but it hurts to watch it, that’s for sure.”
