Arsenal are set to profit from an unexpected transfer twist this January, with former defender Nuno Tavares positioned to hand the Gunners a welcome financial lift.
The news comes just days after Arsenal’s commanding Champions League victory over Club Brugge.
Tavares, who left Arsenal permanently in 2024 after an up-and-down spell, has struggled to settle at Lazio this season.
His form has dipped so significantly that he was booed off at half-time during their recent draw with Bologna.

Reports in Italy now suggest Lazio may be ready to move him on in January. And crucially for Arsenal, a 40% sell-on clause inserted into his deal means the club would receive a major portion of any fee.
Given that the 25-year-old has already signalled approval to at least one interested Saudi Pro League club, the Gunners could be looking at a tidy winter bonus.
Guardiola Sends Clear Message in Title Race
But while Arsenal may benefit off the pitch, the challenge on the pitch is only intensifying. Pep Guardiola delivered a pointed warning after Manchester City’s dramatic 2–1 win at Real Madrid.
Speaking to TNT Sports, Guardiola insisted his team are “still not ready” and will be “much better in February”.
For Arsenal, who recently slipped against Aston Villa, those words serve as a reminder of City’s trademark second-half-of-season surge, reports Mirror.
With key players like Rodri and John Stones yet to hit full rhythm, City’s improvement could spell trouble for the teams chasing the title.
Arsenal remain firmly in the race, but Guardiola’s message underlines just how high the level may rise in the months ahead.
