After facing off in preseason, Arsenal star Gabriel reminded teammate Richarlison of the games that matter. Richarlison, a Tottenham and Brazil forward, was on the winning side in Hong Kong and posted a snapshot of his man of the match award on social media.
He also tagged Gabriel in the post, which appeared to be a jab at the Arsenal centre-back. The defender wasn’t going to let that go, though, and responded with photographs of three Premier League man-of-the-match medals he’d earned against Tottenham.
Arsenal won the first of three awards in the 2023-24 season, 3-2 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Gabriel was also named man of the match in the Gunners’ two games last season, a 1-0 away triumph and a 2-1 home victory.

Gabriel did not play in the Hong Kong encounter because he is still recovering from an injury. However, Arsenal’s new attacker Viktor Gyokeres and centre-back Cristhian Mosquera made their debuts.
“A big surprise, because whenever we have them [new signings] to participate in training sessions, in games, the attitude and especially the quality that they have has been incredible, so very pleased,” Arsenal manager MIkel Arteta told reporters following the match. “As I stated, there are many fantastic things to take away from this tour.
“The great camaraderie we had among the players and staff, and how I believe everyone cherishes where we are. It’s been a long two weeks, with a lot going on and a lot of things to adapt to in your preparation. However, everyone is eager to make it happen, particularly those who have worked tirelessly to prepare the entire tour for us. A big thank you because they did an excellent job.
