Arsenal Must Sign Piero Hincapie To A Long-Term £45 Million Contract

According to multiple reports, Arsenal concluded one of the busiest transfer windows among Premier League teams by acquiring Piero Hincapie from Bayer Leverkusen on loan with a buyout option.

According to The Athletic, the “option to buy” clause is merely drafted because of a financial decision made by the Gunners, and Arsenal is truly required to acquire Hincapie on a permanent contract worth £45 million next year.

The source claims that Arsenal wants to include Hincapie’s permanent signing in their accounting records for the upcoming season. However, in order to legally record his loan as an obligation rather than a buyout option, they would have needed to sign him before July 1st, 2026.

It will be viewed as a prudent move by the board that lessens the club’s danger of Financial Fair Play sanctions, given how much they have spent in recent weeks on players like Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and Eberechi Eze.

Hincapie is an excellent defensive upgrade

Arsenal, who lacked defensive depth the previous season and were forced to consider their alternatives in the middle of their backline after Gabriel Magalhaes sustained an injury near the conclusion of the season, is thrilled to have Piero Hincapie join them.

He has a winning record as well, having excelled at Bayer Leverkusen, where he was a mainstay and most famously won an undefeated domestic double in 2023–2024 under Xabi Alonso.

Crucially, the 23-year-old is also left-footed, giving Mikel Arteta an alternative to his current center backs, who are both right-footed, if he wants to play out from the back.

In addition to making the South American great a useful alternative at left back, Hincapie’s serenity on the ball and speed can help Arsenal perform better defensively should Arteta choose to play with a high line.

Although not much will have a negative impact on his future because Arsenal is ultimately required to acquire him for £45 million next summer, it will be intriguing to observe what kind of position he plays in the club this season.
