Arsenal has reopened talks with Viktor Gyokeres after failing to reach an agreement on a deal for alternative target Benjamin Sesko, reports say. Both attackers were on Arsenal’s radar this summer, as manager Mikel Arteta was looking to add a fresh striker to his team.
Throughout the summer transfer window, their focus seemed to shift between the two. However, it appears that Sporting Lisbon’s Gyokeres is currently at the head of the line.
Arsenal are in advanced talks with their Portuguese colleagues about a transaction, having already reached an agreement with Gyokeres personally. It makes a deal for Sesko seem exceedingly unlikely.
According to the Independent, Gunners manager Andrea Berta moved on from the Slovenian due to Leipzig’s high demands of roughly €80 million to seal a deal. Arsenal were reportedly €10 million short of the requested fee, and the form of the transfer also disappointed North London officials.
Meanwhile, personal arrangements with the striker proved difficult, leading Arsenal to end negotiations totally. In addition, Sesko’s agent, Elvis Basanovic, has been quizzed about the Gunners’ interest in both strikers.

He argued that Sesko would have been a better fit for Arsenal, while also making a sly dig at Gyokeres for his aspirations to leave Sporting Lisbon. Speaking with Give Me Sport, he stated, “Let me tell you: Sesko is not competing against anyone.
“It’s him vs him every day. We have a clear strategy for the future, and media speculation has no impact on us. Sesko is more than just a striker; he is a special striker.
He said, “Even if the player has a strong desire to move to a specific club, we will never force or blackmail RB Leipzig.
