Arsenal are set to sign Eberechi Eze from Tottenham Hotspur in what could be one of the more audacious signings of the Premier League’s summer transfer season, according to reports on Wednesday. Spurs believed to be close to signing Crystal Palace’s 27-year-old offensive midfielder. However, despite concerns about Kai Havertz’s knee injury, it is now speculated that Arsenal will torpedo the deal and bring England international Eze, who was released by the Gunners when he was 13 years old, to the Emirates.
The Athletic reported that Arsenal had reached an agreement in principle with Palace to sign Eze, with the transaction valued at around the expiring £68 million ($91 million) release clause, which matched the sum Spurs were willing to pay.
Arsenal’s interest grew after Havertz sustained an injury setback.

The Germany international came on in the second half of Sunday’s win against Manchester United and finished the game, but he was absent from Arsenal’s open training session at the Emirates on Wednesday.
Arsenal came second to Premier League champions Liverpool last season and are likely to fight for the title again, while Spurs, who won the Europa League final, placed 17th, one position above the relegation zone.
Eze played 84 minutes in Palace’s weekend draw at Chelsea and trained on Wednesday ahead of the Conference League play-off at home to Fredrikstad, with coach Oliver Glasner maintaining he and Eagles captain Marc Guehi, a Liverpool target, will both start the European match.
“Because they are good, they are committed to the team, and when one of the players go, which I don’t know at the moment, then they want to depart as guys who always gave 100 percent for Crystal Palace.
