Julian Alvarez hesitated to rule out the prospect of leaving Atletico Madrid in the summer following the decisive Champions League victory over Tottenham Hotspur.
With a 5-2 last-16 first-leg victory over struggling Spurs, Diego Simeone’s team virtually guaranteed their spot in the Champions League quarterfinals.
Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann, and Alvarez gave Atletico a 3-0 lead at the Metropolitano Stadium in just 15 minutes.
With goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky making two mistakes before being substituted off after just 17 minutes, the hosts’ dominance was more a result of Tottenham’s poor performance than of their own brilliance.

After praising Atletico’s outstanding performance against Spurs, Alvarez unexpectedly hinted that he would be moving in the summer due to Premier League interest.
The Argentina international, who won consecutive league titles at Manchester City prior to his £82 million transfer to Spain in 2024, has been strongly linked to both Arsenal and Chelsea.
Alvarez Refuses To Rule Out Atletico Exit
According to the Metro, when asked whether he would be at Atletico Madrid next season, Alvarez said: “I don’t know, I might be, or I might not. I’m happy. I’m thinking about the day to day.”
Following his team’s decisive victory over Tottenham, Simeone encouraged his Atletico star to remain with the team ‘for many years.’
“He looks happy to me,’ Simeone said. ‘He’s scoring goals, if you look at the teams he’s been at [River Plate and Man City], Atletico is the team where he’s scored the most goals.
“He looks committed, positive. There isn’t much difference between this season and last season in terms of the goals he’s scored.
“Let’s hope he can stay for many years at Atletico Madrid, and we can keep building a team so that important players want to stay.”
