Arne Slot Withdraws From LMA Awards Dinner Following  Liverpool Parade Incident

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has withdrawn from the League Managers Association’s (LMA) annual awards event to show his sympathy for people affected by the horrific incident that occurred during the club’s Premier League victory parade.

The Dutchman was named both LMA Manager of the Year and Barclays Premier League Manager of the Year for his outstanding debut season in English football, during which he delivered Liverpool’s second Premier League title of the era and first since 2019/20 after leaving Feyenoord to succeed Jurgen Klopp last summer.

However, Slot did not attend the ceremony in London on Tuesday night due to Monday’s tragic incident, in which a car ploughed into dozens of Liverpool fans celebrating on Water Street at 6 p.m. during the city’s title parade, injuring 65 people in total, 50 of whom required hospital treatment and 11 of whom remain in stable condition.

“As you will know, a shocking incident took place in Liverpool yesterday, one that left dozens of men, women and children who had attended our parade injured, and as a result I have had to withdraw from the event out of solidarity with all affected,” Slot wrote in a letter to the LMA before to the gathering.

“This is not a decision I made lightly, but one that I believe is completely correct given the gravity of the circumstances. I hope I have your understanding in this matter.

Merseyside Police said in their latest report on Tuesday that a 53-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, reckless driving, and driving while impaired by drugs.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the emergency services and other authorities in Liverpool who swung into action as soon as the incident happened,” he said on X.
