Arne Slot Receives Boost As First January Transfer Is Finalized

The January transfer window has officially opened, and Liverpool might be in for a hectic month in the market. Despite a significant investment in Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz during the summer, Arne Slot could sign a new player if the perfect opportunity arises.

Liverpool are low on attacking alternatives due to Mohamed Salah’s involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations and Alexander Isak’s long-term injury.

Liverpool have been given a boost if they decide to move again for Marc Guehi after a summer deal fell through, while the club has confirmed their first transfer of the winter window. Mirror Football looks at the latest news from Anfield.

Marc Guehi boost

Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has revealed he does not know whether Guehi will stay with the club during the January transfer window. On transfer deadline day in September, the Reds were just minutes away from signing the England centre-back, but the deal fell through at the last second.

The Reds and Palace agreed on a £35 million cost, and Guehi even underwent a medical. The 25-year-old defender will not be re-signed by the Eagles after his contract expires at the end of the 2025/26 season.

While there has been no movement in Liverpool’s pursuit of Guehi, Glasner has admitted he does not know what will happen with his captain this month, giving the Reds hope that a deal will be made.

When asked about Guehi’s future, Glasner responded, “You will ask me all these questions again and again.” I need to discover one answer. I’ll always tell you the same thing as long as I don’t know anything else.

First transfer confirmed.

James Norris has made a permanent move to Shelbourne. The 22-year-old defender has been on loan at the League of Ireland Premier Division club since February.

The switch marks the end of Norris’ long affiliation with his boyhood side. The Liverpool native joined the club’s academy at the under-9 level.

He rose through the ranks and made two appearances for the first team. At the age of 16, he made his debut in December 2019 as a substitute in Aston Villa’s 5-0 Carabao Cup quarter-final defeat.

He was the fourth-youngest player in Liverpool history at the time. Norris made his second and final game for Liverpool in January 2022, coming on in injury time in a 4-1 FA Cup third-round victory over Shrewsbury Town at home.

According to a club official, “Everyone at Liverpool FC wishes James the best of luck for the future.” Several young players from Liverpool’s academy could be considered for loan moves this month, including Trent Kone-Doherty, Rhys Williams, Kieran Morrison, and Calvin Ramsay.
