After Liverpool won the Premier League, Arne Slot paid respect to Gary Lineker for his work as host of Match of the Day over the last 25 years. Slot was interviewed by Lineker on the Anfield ground after his team finally won the Premier League title, and he opted to thank the presenter who is stepping down.
Liverpool ended their 2024/25 season with a 1-1 draw against FA Cup champions Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon. Mohamed Salah’s goal cancelled out Ismaila Sarr’s strike in a party atmosphere at Anfield.
The Reds were then presented with the trophy, which they had won by a score of 5-1 against Tottenham on April 27. Following the game, the Liverpool manager spoke with Lineker via video link from the Match of the Day studio.

After discussing the season and plans for the summer, Lineker concluded the interview, only to have the subject turn to himself. “Thanks very much for talking to us and congratulations,” Lineker told the crowd.
Slot responded: “Thank you for now, and thank you for being such a brilliant presenter of BBC show that I used to watch all the time when I lived in Holland, and still do. It’s fantastic what you done. I’d have preferred to offer you a Liverpool shirt rather than the other team you played for.”
Lineker replied: “Arne, thank you, I appreciate that.” Slot then added: “You’re welcome, all the best.”
