Liverpool’s week has become progressively worse. Manager Arne Slot has informed that midfielder Ryan Gravenberch will miss the Champions League meeting against Eintracht Frankfurt owing to an ankle injury.
The Dutch midfielder limped out in the second half of Liverpool’s 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Anfield, exacerbating the club’s ongoing downturn.
Slot said that Gravenberch twisted his ankle and did not recover in time to fly with the team.
“Yeah, I had to take him off over the weekend because he limped a little bit, as we all noticed. So, unfortunately, he is not ready to play tomorrow,” Slot told Liverpoolfc.com.
“That already means I definitely have to change one player and with him not being there, that might mean something for others as well, because he has such a particular quality in our squad.”
The update comes at a tough time for Liverpool. The club is on a four-game losing streak in all competitions, and Slot’s men are desperate to turn things around in Europe.
How Gravenberch’s absence will affect Liverpool?
Gravenberch’s absence may leave a significant vacancy in midfield. The 23-year-old has been one of Liverpool’s most consistent performances this season, bringing balance and protection to the back four, something Slot admits is difficult to replace.

“Ryan is not available for the Frankfurt game, hopefully he will be available at the weekend,” Slot reported. “But it’s an ankle injury, we have to wait and see, give him a bit of time and see where he is when we come back from Frankfurt.”
To make matters worse, Liverpool’s preparations have also been interrupted off the pitch.
The team’s travel to Germany was delayed due to technical concerns, necessitating the cancelation of Slot’s pre-match press conference. Apparently, the plane has joined the club’s recent injury list.
Slot, however, remains solid in his hopes. “If you play for Liverpool, you aim to win every single game,” he told the crowd. “Whether we’ve won seven in a row or lost four, the goal doesn’t change.”
Liverpool fans will be hoping that Slot’s words translate into action as he attempts to navigate his club out of turbulence, both literally and metaphorically.
