Arne Slot Could Lose Key Liverpool Figure As Ajax Decides ‘Number One Target’

According to reports  Ajax has named Liverpool coach John Heitinga its top target—along with Marcel Keizer in a possible shared manager arrangement—to replace Italian Francesco Farioli this summer.

Jordan Henderson’s squad led the Eredivisie by nine points with only a few weeks remaining in the season. However, it managed to gain two points in four games, allowing PSV to catch up in the league rankings.

Farioli and Ajax parted ways after such a dramatic collapse, despite the fact that this was one of the strongest seasons the Dutch club has had in recent years. And Heitinga is a highly regarded successor.

According to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, Heitinga, 41, Arne Slot’s assistant at Anfield, is willing to make the move. In a dual capacity, Heitinga would be the head coach, with Keizer serving as his assistant.

Keizer and Heitinga previously worked with Jong Ajax, the junior squad, and the former was briefly in charge of Ajax’s senior team. It did not work out at the time, in 2017, but there were mitigating factors.

Marc Overmars, the director of football, did not support his appointment, and Keizer requested three things: an assistant of his choosing, a right back, and a left back, which he did not receive.

Before the season began, Keizer had to cope with the extremely tough situation with Abdelhak Nouri.

The former Ajax player experienced a heart collapse during a friendly versus Werder Bremen, resulting in severe and lifelong brain damage.
