Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that Vinicius Junior was affected by missing out on the 2024 Ballon d’Or but praised his mental strength.
The Brazilian star was widely tipped to win the award after leading Real Madrid to La Liga and Champions League glory last year.
Fans even chanted “Ballon d’Or, Vinicius Ballon d’Or” following his hat-trick against Borussia Dortmund days before the ceremony, reports SI
However, to everyone’s surprise, Manchester City’s Rodri claimed the prize, leaving Vinicius and Real Madrid stunned by the decision.
The entire Madrid squad boycotted the event, and Vinicius posted online afterward: “I’ll do 10x if I have to. They’re not prepared.”
Since then, his form has dipped slightly, with fewer goals and assists compared to the season before the Ballon d’Or snub.
Ancelotti Confident Vinicius Will Bounce Back
Ancelotti, who managed him during that period, believes the disappointment played a role but insists Vinicius has bounced back.

“It might have affected him a little, but now Vini is close to his best again,” the coach told AS. “He’s decisive and strong.”
Now managing Brazil, Ancelotti’s goal is to help Vinicius replicate his Real Madrid form with the national team.
“Vini is top class,” Ancelotti concluded. “He’s improving, scoring, assisting, and I’m sure he’ll shine at the World Cup.”
